Insightful, Individualised Assessments to Support Growth and Wellbeing

Barbara offers a range of psychological assessments for both children and adults, with respect for your unique needs and circumstances. Assessments can help you better understand developmental, emotional, behavioural, and cognitive functioning — offering clarity, direction, and next steps for support.

Types of Assessments Offered

  • Cognitive assessments - or intelligence testing can be helpful in understanding a persons cognitive strengths and weaknesses and how they impact on daily life. Combined with an academic achievement test, I can assess for learning disorders or giftedness. Combined with an adaptive behaviour test, I can assess for intellectual disabilities.

  • Adaptive behaviours are assessed using the Vineland. This tool is used for assessment of day to day functioning, social and life skills. When combined with a cognitive assessment, this test is essential for assessment of intellectual disability.

  • Academic achievement (WIAT) can be combined with a cognitive assessment to assess for learning difficulties in children and young people.

  • Assessment of ADHD is a complex process and involves a number of interviews, questionnaires and direct observation. I can provide a full assessment, or a ‘lite’ version, involving screening tools and an interview. Based on the results, you may also need to see a paediatrician or psychiatrist to confirm a diagnosis and if appropriate, provide you with medication.

  • Best practice for assessment of autism involves a multi-disciplinary team of medical and allied health professionals. As a solo practitioner, I can provide screening and guidance on the steps toward a formal assessment and diagnosis pathway.

  • Screening or clinical assessment of mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health conditions may be needed. These assessments are not required for therapy to take place, though are sometimes requested by third parties as part of a treatment plan or support plan.
