Supporting you in your journey toward emotional wellbeing

Everybody needs support at some time in their life. Sometimes things just get really tough and seeking support can help get you moving again.

Some reasons why people seek support include:

  • Anxiety: Feeling worried, nervous, or on edge a lot of the time, even when there’s no clear danger.

  • Depression: Feeling very sad, flat, or hopeless for a long time, and losing interest in things you usually enjoy.

  • Stress management: Learning ways to handle pressure and demands so they don’t overwhelm you.

  • Parenting support: Help with managing parenting challenges and building strong, healthy relationships with your child.

  • Chronic pain: Ongoing physical pain that lasts a long time and can affect your mood, energy, and daily life.

  • Sleep problems: Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up feeling tired, which can impact your health and wellbeing.

  • Adapting to life changes: Coping with big changes in your life, like moving, job loss, illness, or relationship changes.

  • Grief and loss: Deep sadness and adjustment after losing someone or something important to you.

Therapy Options & Modalities

Barbara offers a range of evidence-based, trauma-informed therapies for adults and children. We can chat about which therapy or combination of therapies can support you on your path toward wellbeing.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you learn to accept difficult thoughts and feelings, connect with what really matters to you, and take steps toward a more meaningful life—even in the face of challenges.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you understand the link between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, and teaches practical strategies to manage challenges and improve your wellbeing.

  • EMDR is a therapy that helps people process and heal from traumatic or distressing experiences by using guided eye movements to reduce emotional intensity and promote recovery.

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a practical, goal-oriented approach that helps you focus on your strengths and find solutions to create positive change, often in just a few sessions

  • Children learn through play, making play-based therapy a natural way for children to express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Through toys, storytelling, art, and movement, children can explore feelings and build skills in a safe, developmentally appropriate way. Play is essential in therapy because it supports emotional regulation, strengthens relationships, and promotes healing and growth, especially when children may not yet have the words to explain what they’re going through.

  • Walk and talk therapy supports mental wellbeing by combining movement, nature, and conversation, helping clients feel more relaxed, open, and connected during sessions. Walk and talk therapy may help reduce anxiety and stress, improve mood and energy levels and improve overall mental and physical health. It might also be a great chance to combine walking your dog with your therapy session!

  • Sometimes, it’s just not possible to make it to the clinic. Whether you are feeling a bit unwell, the car has broken down or just too far to travel to town, we can arrange to meet via Telehealth. I use a secure and private Telehealth option. You will need to make sure your own setting provides you with the privacy you need for the session.

  • Many people prefer face-to-face therapy, with fewer distractions, and a safe, private space to talk openly. It can also be more suitable for certain therapies, like play-based approaches or emotional support in distressing moments.

Approach to Care

Barbara offers an holistic and individualised approach to therapy, drawing from evidenced based therapies, mindfulness practices and a trauma-informed framework. Barbara works collaboratively with each person to explore their unique goals, experiences and needs, offering compassionate support to foster growth, healing, and long-term wellbeing.

With a focus on you as a whole person, you will have the opportunity to explore all areas of your life that may be impacting on your wellbeing. Factors such as relationships, caring roles, work stress, financial stress, all impact on your physical and emotional wellbeing. The fast pace and demands of life may reduced time for sleep, self-care, exercise and adequate nutrition. Together we will explore the changes you can make in therapy and discuss other health professionals who may become a part of your journey to better health and wellbeing.
